Hey man, you just gotta vibrate at a higher frequency, you know? Like manifest that abundance by visualizing your dreams as if they’re already yours. You have to feel it in your soul, align with the universe’s energy, and watch those blessings flow in like a tidal wave of cosmic goodness! … You know?

Ya man, I know. Let me stop your Reiki session. Put the crystals and tarot cards down for a hot second. You’re telling me I can have anything I want, all I have to do is raise my inner vibration? I don’t know what that is but if it will get me whatever I want, sign me up!

It can’t be that easy. If it was, we’d all be trillionaires, driving our flying yachts, and everyone worshipping us as if we were gods. When you start to get into the core of what spiritual manifestation is about (some call it law of attraction), you see that it’s only missing one very small part that is the fine line between someone’s success and downfall. But first let’s dive in to what the mainstream’s view of spiritual manifestation is and some of its pitfalls.

The Delusion of Spiritual Manifestation

What is spiritual manifestation? It is using your soul and internal states to attract things into your life. Money, relationships, and fame all seem to be the biggest things that are desired.

How does one begin to attract these things? What sorts of practices do you have to do to raise your inner vibration? Here are some, to name a few:

  • Meditation
  • Visualizing the desired goal
  • Positive affirmations
  • Vision boards
  • Aligning with the universe
  • Setting your intentions daily
  • Acting as if you already achieved the desired outcome

You can see why the mainstream spiritual communities would find this appealing. It’s all very positive sounding and if you can have positive practices that attract things you want into your life, it’s really a no brainer.

But at what point does this become delusion? Delusion is ignoring external reality. It’s like saying, “I have a million dollars” when you have creditors come knocking daily, wondering when you’re going to pay back your debts.

If that’s the case, we can say all of this is delusion. You can’t be something you are not by convincing yourself that you are, and expect the world and other people to share in your delusion.

I’m all for positive emotions and self-improvement, but when we live in delusion we risk losing a lot by our reckless decision making. Here is what you can expect:

1) You Will Lose Friends and Family

I am no stranger to the law of attraction. In fact, when I first found spirituality, spiritual manifestation was one of the first things I employed into my life. This is often the case with new spiritual seekers. However, as I began to practice law of attraction, I began to take on a prideful condescending view of others. Everyone I knew became “ignorant” and “asleep.” They didn’t know the truth, only I did.

I also began to take a “my way or the highway” approach. Because everyone around me was “asleep” I stopped thinking any of their opinions actually mattered. My friends and family all began to slowly avoid me because I was so arrogant. There I was thinking that I was dropping them because they weren’t at the same vibrational frequency as me, when in reality they were dropping me because of my pride.

2) You Will Lose Your Job, money, and Stability

After convincing myself that I could make millions through law of attraction, I began to pursue my own business. So much of my time would go to that, that I eventually convinced myself that I was ready to leave my 9-5 and pursue my business full-time. This was a huge mistake. Building financial stability is the key to monetary success, yet I was riding the high of believing I was an entrepreneur.

This ultimately led me to leaving my job and losing all stability. I ended up having to move back in with family because I couldn’t pay my rent or bills. I had nothing, I was nothing. My mind told me I was doing everything right, but my external reality was displaying the truth.

3) Your Time is Wasted

This is probably the biggest con to spiritual manifestation. When I came out of my delusion, I felt scammed! I was told I’d have all these riches, success, and fame, but what I was really pissed about was the time I wasted! A year of my life was gone, and it dawned on me, if I had been living in reality I would have gotten a lot farther with my goals than buying into this garbage.

It took me about a year to recover everything I had lost. Now some people aren’t so lucky. Some have been employing the law of attraction for years or even decades. Think of how long it will take them to recover from that wasted time.

the ego is at the center of law of attraction

Why is focusing on manifestation so disastrous? It seems so harmless on the surface. The answer lies, not in the practices themselves but what is happening to you internally behind the practices. When you first hear that you can manifest things and not everyone knows of this, your ego latches on to those possibilities. It loves the exclusivity of this new way of thinking. “You’re telling me only a select group of people know of this hidden truth? That I can attract anything into my life if I just harness this power!?” That person is now sold.

Sold to what? Sold to their very own ego (aka themselves). Now you don’t answer to anyone. You have the keys to your kingdom, you can control the direction of your life, you are a god essentially. This is the classic temptation all religions and ancient spiritual teachings have advised against.

This ego trap is the classic temptation of fame, wealth, success, and being desired by others. Which only leads to one thing, a prideful self-deluded belief that “You” are at the center of the universe.

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

– Proverbs 16:18, Bible: King James Version

Not many people know that the Bible is where that quote came from. Obviously, the simplified version being “Pride comes before a fall.” If you haven’t experienced this before, take my word. Every time I’ve been prideful, a humbling gut punch always came my way to knock me down a few notches.

Manifest Spiritually by letting go of all outcomes

I don’t want to say that goals can’t be manifested. They can! The caveat? It can only happen when God deems it appropriate.

How many times have you desired a specific outcome to a problem or situation and it never went according to your plan? It’s probably happened more times than it actually going the way you wanted it to.

How many times have you been unattached from an outcome and everything seems to happen perfectly. That’s the state we should be aiming for. It is possible to live in that state all the time, but it can only happen to the degree that you are willing to let go of yourself/ego.

When you can let go of yourself, God can finally take control. You might ask, “How is it possible to do anything if you let go of yourself, your goals, your ambitions?” The answer is you have to be willing to let it go and see for yourself. This requires blind faith. Now you know what it means to be a saint or an enlightened sage. They live in a constant state of blind faith.

One has to fully trust that God is all good, all powerful, and everywhere in existence. That he only has his best intentions is mind for you. All these practices can be done, but if you are not willing to let go of the outcome, you will only be led astray.

You have to also be open to the possibility that God may not want you to be a celebrity, a professional athlete, or a millionaire. But I can assure you, that when you release dependency on your ego through blind faith, God will lead you to your fullest potential in whatever capacity he sees fit for your life.

If nothing else, take it from my own experience, that my life only got better the moment I decided to let go of myself and desired outcomes. Not only did my health, wealth, and relationships all improve, but I felt closer to God and my capacity to trust him keeps increasing. With blind faith, every outcome and result becomes a surprise gift. This is your greatest adventure.
